THE CHAFFEE COUNTY EARLY CHILDHOOD COUNCIL

The Chaffee County Early Childhood Council (CCECC) is working hard to make sure every child in our community gets the strong start they deserve. By bringing together health, education, mental health, and family resources, they’re building a sustainable system of care so all Chaffee kids enter school ready to learn.

WHO THEY ARE

CCECC is a community-driven organization addressing the severe childcare shortage in Chaffee County. From mentoring new providers to supporting existing childcare centers, they’re helping to expand access and improve quality for families across the valley. Their work spans mental health consultation, maternal wellness support groups, early childhood workforce development, and family resources — all designed to strengthen the foundation for young children.

WHAT THEY’RE UP TO

Right now, CCECC is partnering with 16 local agencies to tackle challenges facing children and families. They’re helping providers navigate funding and licensing, supporting childcare centers with coaching and improvement grants, and creating new opportunities through the Emerging Early Childhood Educators program. They also provide maternal wellness support groups and developmental screenings, making critical services more accessible to families across the county.

WHERE THE MOONLIGHT GIVES FUNDS GO

Moonlight Monday funds will support CCECC’s staff and contractors as they continue this important work — from running maternal wellness groups and early childhood mental health consultation to maintaining their website as a central hub for families and providers. Funds will also help ensure children are screened for developmental delays early and often, and provide resources and free training for childcare professionals.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CCECC?

Looking ahead, CCECC plans to continue expanding childcare capacity in Chaffee County. They’re working with partners like the Buena Vista School District and Chaffee County Community Foundation to support new facilities and programs. They’re also evaluating their website to make it an even stronger resource for families and providers.

A STORY THAT STUCK WITH US

When a local childcare center wanted to raise its Colorado Shines quality rating, CCECC stepped in with coaching and grant support. That center went from a level 2 to a level 4 — a leap that meant more resources, better training for staff, and a stronger environment for kids. Another success came with their Early Childhood Workforce Pipeline Program, which is already producing new teachers and childcare providers who will help ease the shortage for years to come.

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THE CCECC

CCECC welcomes community support year-round. Volunteers are especially needed for their annual Growing Strong Kids Expo, and donations help sustain programs that benefit children and families across the county.
