Salida Middle School

We’re excited to shine the spotlight on Salida Middle School—a place where students are not only learning but growing into strong, respectful, and engaged members of our community.

WHO THEY ARE

Salida Middle School is built on the belief that middle school is a time for growth, discovery, and relationship-building. Their core values are summed up in the acronym PROUD:
Prepared, Respectful, Optimistic, Unified, and Dedicated.

These aren’t just words on a wall—they're guiding principles for the school culture, helping students feel valued, empowered, and ready to learn every day.

WHAT THEY’RE UP TO

The school works hard to teach students how to be positive, contributing members of their grade level, school, and the wider Salida community. Whether it’s in the classroom, the hallway, or beyond school walls, students are encouraged to show up with respect, optimism, and unity.

WHERE THE MOONLIGHT GIVES FUNDS GO

As the district moves toward a phone-free policy, Salida Middle School is getting creative about screen-free engagement. Funds from Moonlight Monday will go directly toward enhancing indoor and outdoor play opportunities—encouraging students to connect, collaborate, and explore without devices.

It’s all part of their mission to build meaningful, hands-on experiences that help kids rediscover the fun of just being kids.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR SALIDA MIDDLE SCHOOL?

The team at SMS is focused on expanding collaborative, innovative, and playful experiences—all designed to help students build relationships and life skills without relying on screens. Their goal? More face time with peers, more problem-solving, and more connection.

A STORY THAT STUCK WITH US

After reading A Long Walk to Water, the school’s 6th graders don’t just talk about global challenges—they walk the walk. Literally. Each year, students participate in a Water Walk, carrying 5-gallon jerry cans up S Mountain. They give up their favorite beverages for two weeks and donate the money they would've spent to Water for South Sudan. It’s a powerful reminder that these students are making a difference, near and far.

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT SMS

Parents, guardians, and community members are always welcome at Salida Middle School. In fact, last year’s student conference was made possible thanks to local volunteers who shared their stories and talents. If you'd like to help, visit, or contribute, reach out—they’d love to have you.
